We are a self-help group (parent cooperative) of parents having a child
with Down syndrome (no longer in use but also
known under the term "mongolism"). Members of our group come from different
places in and around Bremen, Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Achim, Verden, Rotenburg,
Soltau, Fallingbostel, Rethem und Hannover.
We have regular meetings every month. Our main
topics are the development and the problems of our handicapped children.
Some of them visit special institutions,
others
attend regular kindergartens and state schools though in forms of
individual integration or special integration classes.

Major projects of our group
-
Besides our monthly meetings we organize additional meetings and lectures
on "Down´s syndrome". For these occasions we invite lecturers specialized
in this field who lecture about their scientific or clinical research and
their experience. Our guest speakers so far:
Dr. Storm, Paderborn, - "The development of children with Down syndrome".
Prof. Dr. Etta Wilken, Hildesheim - "The development of speaking abilities".
Dr. Mehl, Bremen, social pediatric centre.
Dr. Kutscher, Verden
-
We also have regular meetings together with our children. The youngest
are only a few months old, the oldest are already in their teens. As our
interests diverge widely, we have chosen contact persons for each age-group.
We are well-equipped with German books about this subject
which are available for study purposes to everybody interested. For a survey
